Becoming An Avon Representaive

In the current economic environment starting a home-based business is an excellent way to make money from home.

Initial Setup

One of the great advantages of selling Avon products as a business venture is its low start-up cost. To get started, you will firstly be required to pay a one-time registration fee of $10. After which you will fill out a short application form either online or by an existing representative in your local area.

You can get signed up now by visiting our Avon website here.

Once signed up, you are now your own boss running your own business - ready to start selling Avon. Furthermore, selling Avon is more than a business its a new lifestyle.

Avon require all new representatives to be coached by an existing one in their local area, so if you signed up online you can search for a representative closest to you here. This representative will show how to get started and how to use your online backoffice.

Getting The Word Out

Your next step is to start marketing your Avon business. You have great products in your Avon arsenal for men, women, teens and children  (over 2000 products for them to choose from) but without an effective marketing machinery to get the word out you will not be making any money.

Avon will initially provide you with a package of advertising material including brochures, flyers and booklets. Further materials for future advertising will have to be purchased.

So what are your marketing options for selling Avon? How do you get the word out?

You would of course want to market your business both offline and online for optimal effectiveness. You would need to have a computer, printer/fax, basic stationary items and of course the Internet.

Getting Paid

Your customers order can either be filled by you placing it for them or they can shop directly from your website after sending them a personal link upon request (having your own Avon website will cost $26 for the year).

If purchases are made from your site by the customer Avon will directly ship it to them, if ordered by you Avon will send the products to you and then arrangements will have to be made with the customer for pickup.

Avon will bill you the discounted price of all items sold and you pay the bill with the money collected from your customers at the retail price. The difference is your earnings.

A Short Interview With An Avon Representative

There are thousands of representatives around the world selling Avon products. Most of the 'Avon ladies' and men alike sell in their spare-time, although there is now an increasing number who work at their business full time.

We have interviewed several Avon representatives to ascertain how they have built up their successful businesses selling Avon. Learning from their experiences will undoubtedly help you to decide whether you would benefit from joining an Avon team.

This week we are speaking with a man - Dave Carter who is 31 and lives in Sunderland, UK.

Q: Dave, why did you join Avon?
A: My partner Debbie joined first, about 18 months ago. I had been selling another multi-level marketing (MLM) company's products but I wasn't very successful. I like the idea of network marketing also known as multi-level marketing and I could see the potential as network marketing takes advantage of leverage which can increase your earning exponentially but it just wasn't working for me. Then Avon started doing business here in the UK about 2 years ago and getting in on the ground floor seemed very attractive. I never dream't I would be so successful as I am today.

Q: You say you have succeeded selling Avon, how well have you done?
A: I don't want to be too specific about the money, but to give you an idea, I achieved the top commission level just before Christmas! Debbie and I run separate teams and she should join me on the top level soon.

Q: That's great. You must be doing well to reach the top level in such a short time?
A: I really am enjoy selling Avon products. Although most of my team members of nearly 100 is within 40-50 miles, I also travel, especially to meet potential sales leaders. I love being my own boss and don't think I could go back to working for someone else.

Q: So you think it's best to actually meet the members of your team?
A: It's one of Avon's rules: I have to meet the potential recruit face to face. We aren't allowed to sign up people by phone.

Q: How do you manage to recruit so many people, especially if some of them are a long way from you?
A: I have a website and receive a lot of enquiries from visitors to the site. After which I either arrange to meet the person myself, or I pass the enquiry to one of my sales leaders. If I don't have a sales leader nearby I know other people with Avon businesses in other parts of the country and we swap leads.

Q: So I guess you would recommend others to join and start selling Avon?
A: I certainly would. I should point out that you wouldn't be joining Avon as such: each one of us is a self-employed representative and we are not employed by the company. But anyone wanting to earn a few pounds/dollars each week by delivering the brochures and then collecting orders is very welcome.

Or you can really build a great business like me by recruiting representatives and sales leaders who, in turn, will themselves recruit representatives. If you have a job now but don't enjoy it, start part-time then build up the business until the income from that is enough to pay all your bills. Then you can sack your boss and work full-time for yourself selling Avon great product line!

Thank you Dave, best wishes for the future. It looks bright.
